The Volition of Volunteers |
|
Ive said many times that although I often receive compliments on the newsletter, I cannot accept them, because the newsletter staffthe assistant managing editor, Linda Harrison, our copyeditors, Mabet Campos and Kari Embree, and our proofreaders, Denise White, Victoria White, and Kelley Raymond, not to mention the writers themselvesare the ones who make sure our newsletter is enjoyable and informative. I simply coordinate everything. Volunteering for the newsletter in any role is no small task. Just when we get one issue up, the next one's deadlines are right around the corner. The writers spend hours each month on their columns, and the editors then make sure the prose matches Signature's style guidelines. Finally, the proofreaders comb through the text once it's posted to its html pages for accuracy. Members of the STC Council contribute, too. John White, our VP of Membership, tracks Chapter enrollment and sends updates every month for the newsletter. Lance-Robert, Chapter President, often writes a summary of the content when he sends out the e-mail to the Chapter announcing each issue. All Council members read the newsletter and offer suggestions for articles at our monthly Council meetings. So, you see why I can't take much credit for Signature. I encourage
you to thank our volunteers if you see them at a meeting. We're all
busy people, and these folks stretch their time and energy for the purpose
of keeping the rest of us informed and entertained. We simply can't
thank them enough. See you next month!
