It's hard to believe, but the 2004-2005 chapter year is almost over! Our last meeting of the chapter year is on June 8, and our first meeting of the 2005-2006 chapter year is in September. This has been an exceptional year for the chapter. We have been very fortunate to have many great speakers, and our meeting attendance is on the rise again. So many of you have come up to me after meetings to express your gratitude for all the great speakers we've had this year, and sincerely I thank you for that. It has been a team effort, and I've been very blessed to work with some very caring and dedicated council members and volunteers this year. If you attend the monthly meetings, you know that some council members welcome guests, check people in, introduce speakers, and make announcements. Others help with the publicity and the planning. Everything that goes on behind the scenes to keep the chapter running is handled by these council members and volunteers. I am staying on for my second and final year as chapter President. Karen Field Carroll (Newsletter VP), Kimberly Hiland (Treasurer), and Jim Guarino (Employment VP) are all staying on for the next chapter year. Liana Harlan volunteered during the April meeting to be our new Webmaster, replacing Eric Hurd, the man who made our Web site into the highly informative work of art it is today. As of this writing, we currently have three open positions on next year's council, and I encourage you to contact me or any other current council member if you're interested in any of them. Unlike many chapters, we don't typically hold elections for these positions, unless more than one person wants to apply for any one of them. Programs VPDevelops programs with the help of the other council members for monthly and special meetings, and schedules our speakers. Provides the meeting details to the Webmaster, and the chapter e-mail list for distribution. Your current Programs VP is Michael Cardenas. Membership VPReceives and processes membership applications, changes of address, and works with STC headquarters to resolve any membership issues. Answers inquiries about membership, and forwards the names of any new or senior members to the Newsletter VP for publication in Signature, our award-winning chapter newsletter. Works with catering and other council members to coordinate the chapter's annual new member dinner, if held. Your current Membership VP is Roberta Davidson. Professional Development VPWorks with the Employment VP to coordinate the chapter's annual "Get that Job!" workshop, if held. Promotes both STC and non-STC technical communications workshops of interest to members. Your current Professional Development VP is Walter Hanig. The chapter council meetings are typically held the week before each chapter meeting, from 6 to 8 PM, and dinner is provided (the location varies). Our annual planning meeting takes place in August, and typically lasts half a day on a Saturday or Sunday. We maintain regular contact with each other throughout the year, and share ideas for programs and events we think the chapter membership might be interested in by e-mail. Again, if you have any interest in these positions, or can refer us to someone else who might be, please contact any of us on the chapter council. Thank you all for your participation in this wonderful chapter year! Sincerely,
|
