Administrative Council

Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2003-2004 chapter year. And a special welcome and heartfelt thanks to our newest newsletter editors, Catherine Robinson and Jennifer Mallory. Great job with the newsletter, team! Thanks also to our other new council members, Beth Peisic (Employment) and Michelle Petersen (Professional Development).

Though there were no chapter meetings or newsletter over the summer, there was lots of activity in the chapter. For example:

  • Michael previewed some presentations at the Region 8 conference and has contacted presenters about speaking at our chapter meetings.

  • Lance looked into other possible sites for chapter meetings. They were not acceptable for cost or other reasons. So we'll be at the Red Lion Hanalei for all meetings this chapter year. Lance has also completed the chapter financial report so we get the chapter's portion of membership dues.

  • Michelle coordinated the signposting telephone seminar held at Cardinal Health. As a participant at another location, I can attest that the seminar was very interesting and useful.
  • Sue has been investigating sites and menus for the new-member dinner in October.

  • Kelley has kept up with announcement and changes for the new council on the Web site. She's also looking into Web-based surveys of member interest for future meetings.

  • Pat Ray has investigated better methods of communicating chapter news and general technical communications announcements to members and others.

  • Beth Peisic has covered for Glenn Voyles so there's no gap in JobMail service.

As always, there are still many volunteer opportunities. Probably highest on the list is the need for people to update the employer database. Beth Peisic is managing this activity, so contact her at beth_peisic@intuit.com to help. The technological outcome will be a current database of employers of technical communicators in the San Diego area. Your personal benefit will be knowing that you've helped out other members.

Another pressing need is help with Professional Development. Contact Michelle Petersen mpetersen3@cox.net; she can identify needed activities ranging from handling seminar reservations to giving seminars.

The easiest way to volunteer is also one of the most useful and, even better, fastest. Contact any council member and let her/him know how the chapter can serve you! See you September 10!
