Leverage your STC membership and serve your local chapter!
Volunteer for free career development. Inspired by STC Florida’s active membership program, STC San Diego is implementing a similar rewards program to encourage participation among members. The program is simple—you can earn awards points for participating in the STC San Diego community. Participate as much or as little as you want–there are no requirements. All participation is highly encouraged. As with all things, the more effort you put in, the more rewarding your STC experience will be.
STC San Diego is a 100% volunteer-run organization. We all (your fellow techcomm peers) contribute our time, expertise and energy to provide programming, mentorship, guidance, fellowship and fun for our members. There is a lot to do and there is always more ways you can help. Anyone, including you, can contribute in some way and all help is valuable and appreciated.
Volunteering in our chapter is a great way to develop your career and practice professional development. There are opportunities for seasoned professionals in leadership, public speaking, content management, strategy, outreach, writing, techcomm tools, etc. The opportunities are endless!
Win points as you volunteer to grow your career
You can earn points for attending (physically or virtually) at monthly chapter meetings, serving in a chapter office, publishing a blog post, and other forms of active participation in the community. If you reach the predetermined point total within the chapter year, you will receive an attractive—and prized—Active Member travel mug emblazoned with the STC logo and chapter name.
You can contribute in a variety of ways–participate once in awhile, or on an ongoing basis. Participation points are awarded for doing the following:
- Bringing/setting up equipment for meetings
- Attending chapter meetings and social events
- Taking pictures of events
- Checking people in
- Social media posts (post about chapter events, national STC events you are involved or interested in, techcomm topics and trends)

To get recognition for your contributions, you can email me at theresa@stc-sd.org or post on our slack channel at https://stc-sandiego.slack.com. I will track each person’s points over the course of the STC year. The people who reach the point total for the year become official Active members and they receive the active member mugs at the end of the STC year. See the breakdown of tasks and points on our tracking spreadsheet here.
