Tech Comm Careers: How do I get started?

Why should you attend this Conference?

In this conference, we have invited Technical Communications Professionals from different backgrounds. They will be sharing their personal stories and also answering questions about the profession. The questions include: How they started their Tech Comm Careers, what tips they can give for those who want to break into Tech Comm, How to get experience in the Technical Communication field. Additionally, our guests will also be answering questions posed by the audience.

They share how an aspiring Technical Communicator can create their own opportunities. Additionally, they talk about organizations and societies that one can join and follow, to learn more about Tech Comm Careers.

Conference Speakers:

Walter Hanig, VP of Employment at STC San Diego. Walter has worked as an Information Architect, a Technical Communications Manager, a Program Manager, as well as a Software Designer. Currently, Walter is volunteering for the STC San Diego Chapter.

Mimi Ngo, Technical Writer and formerly a makeup artist with retail management experience. Mimi has over 2 years of experience in the software industry. She is also the Chapter President of the Orange County Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication.

Rachel Sienko, is a Senior leader and also a Technical Communicator with experience in API & Developer Docs, Content Strategy and User-Centered Documentation.

Neal Kaplan, Senior Technical Documentation Manager at Splunk. Neal’s specialties include Technical documentation, Information Architecture as well as Cross-Functional Leadership.

You can also attend this virtual event from your home on Wednesday, October 16th. Five accomplished and indeed established Technical Communications Professionals will meet and share their experiences , as well as their stories of starting their Tech Comm careers. There will be also plenty of time for you to ask questions and engage in a discussion with the panel members.
