On January 15th, 2020 the STC San Diego chapter gathered at Hera Hub in Sorrento Valley to learn what to do if you’re at the end of a Tech Comm career, whether you’re bored with Technical Communications, you’re ready for a career change, or your job goes away.

About the Speaker

Preston Hathaway is an experienced Technical Communicator with a military background. He joined the United States Navy in 1977, discovering a career field, that relatively few knew about. He is an expert in Electronics Intelligence, Analysis, Cryptology, and also in Naval Operations. These took him from Colorado to Florida, Spain, Texas, Alaska, and San Diego with many more countries visited along the way. After serving 21 years, he transitioned to a training development company. In his career there he discovered a like for information technology together with a growing passion for Tech Comm. In 2004 he began working for SAIC, a company established in San Diego. Over the years he has worked on numerous projects for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, now the Naval Information Warfare Systems Command.
Previously, he taught the University of California in San Diego Extension program’s Technical Communications Certificate Capstone course for eight years. Additionally, in 2013, Preston earned an MS in Engineering Management from George Washington University and began working on Enterprise Architecture and Systems Engineering Projects. Today, Preston is an Enterprise Architect, Systems Engineer, Poet, and if needed, also a Technical Communicator.
