She has been a technical writer for about 9 years, but also has a broad background in IT, having worked in quality assurance, customer implementations, and knowledge-based technical support. I am semi-retired. Most recently, I was an information architect at Teradata. I’ve also worked as a technical communications manager, writer, program manager, and software designer. I served STC two years as chapter president, four years as VP of Finance (aka Treasurer), and most recently as VP for Professional Development. My goals as Employment VP are to publicize locations of job-listing, connect job-hunters and placement firms and contracting shops, and provide information for successful job searches, resumes, and interviews.
Lori Meyer, an STC Fellow, is serving her fifth year as VP of membership for STC San Diego. During her years as an STC member, she has served many STC communities in a variety of roles, including chapter and SIG secretary, webmaster, employment manager, conference co-chair, SIG co-manager, and chapter president. In addition to her work for STC San Diego, she is currently serving as membership manager for the Rochester, East Bay, and Puget Sound Chapters, director-at-large for the Carolina chapter, and co-manager of the Instructional Design and Learning SIG. She is a past president of the East Bay and Washington DC-Baltimore Chapters and is a former co-manager of the Technical Editing SIG, where she created a SIG awards program that is now in its fifth year.
Lori is a technical communicator in Northern California, where she develops and edits software documentation, online help, and training. Lori feels great excitement about the potential of social media and mobile technology to build on our work as technical communicators. She is looking forward to continued service to the San Diego Chapter.
